Academic Goals

My academic goal for this semester is to come to school everyday on time. I want to improve my being here because last semester i was not here because of medical issues. I'm going to wake up early and leave my house at 7:30 to be on time. Even if I don't have time to get ready afer taking a shower i will leave at 7:30. My personal goal is to walk everyday for 30 minutes. I will do this by getting home, change my clothes and go straight to the park. Last term i did not complete my goals because i had medical problems

Vietnam Moratorium

1) What further questions/comments do you have about this historic event?

To me this historic event is repeating itself with Afghanistan and Iraq. The U.S. had went into Vietnam to "save" the Vietnam people. Vietnam was a communism country but that all changed when the war with the U.S. changed everything. The U.S. were seeing countries become communism and they didn't want communism they want capitalism. Capitalism is an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations. The U.S. want to stay number one and these are my comments on the Vietnam Moratorium.

2) One African American veteran said of his experience in Vietnam, "Why should i come over here when some of the South Vietnamese live better than my own people back in the States". What do you think he meant by this?

To me he meant that the colored people should not go to Vietnam and fight other colored people. He also meant why should he fight in this war when the Vietnam people get treated better than his own people back home. These people have done nothing to him or anyone else fighting this war. This was not his fight it was the white mans war and they had no business in Vietnam. He also meant he should be back home fighting the people he was working for, so his people would have a better life and stop being treated wrong.

3) What issues do you believe should be marched for today (perhaps similar issues that were marched for in 1970)?

Things that should be marched for today is the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. I say this because the U.S. are still sending Mexican American and African Americans to the front lines. The U.S. has no business over there and the only reason they are retaliating is because we went over there first trying to change things. I also think we should march for communism so everybody gets equal.

4) BONUS: For the girls who attended the forum, please reflect on your experience. What did you think of the speakers and/or film? What further questions do you have? What feelings did you leave with?

The film was very interesting because it showed me how that day was. It was a friendly march until the L.A.P.D went into a big crown and started hitting people and throwing tear gas into a crowd with men, woman, and children. It was sad that they had to slip through holes in the fence to avoid getting trampled on. This act was very unfair and inhumane. I have to questions

Do you believe that animals can predict disasters?

There are many arguments that suggest that animals hearing disasters is foolish. On the other hand there are many who say that animals can predict disasters. The people who say animals can predict disasters have run various test on animals, specifically elephants. There is a test where an elephant is placed on a platform that vibrates. They had did very low vibrations, vibrations that even humans could not feel. They would know the elephant felt the vibration by training the elephant to touch the right pole if the elephant was eighty percent right.

Another way they know that animals can sense disasters is because of the Tsunami on December 26th. Elephants in Thailand were wailing wildly and running for higher grounds, herds of antelope in India stampeding to get away from the shoreline as fast as possible; flamingos who were mating stopped and fled the Indian coast.

The third way that some animals can predict natural disasters is that they "hear" infrasound. Infrasound are sounds produced by natural phenomena, which can be earthquakes, volcanoes, and storms, that the human ear can not hear. Infrasound gives some animals a chance to flee before a natural disaster happens. The facts that are in this article indicates that I do believe that animals can predict naturl disasters.

My Goals for Academics and Social Life!

My goal for the next ten weeks is to complete three classes i was given. I was given Language and Literature, biology for an elective, and a pregnancy class. My goal is to complete half of the Language and Literature in one week, and the other half in two weeks. After i complete this class i will begin to read, " Pregnancy and Newborn." That will go to an elective class that will take me two weeks to complete and if needed i will bring my work to class for help. Another assignment i will complete is also going to be an elective credit. It is biology and that class will also take me two weeks and if i need more time with my classes i will put aside other activities i have to do.

My social goals are to be more respectful to my mother. I have always set this as a goal of mines and have never followed through with it. For some reason I feel i shouldn't have to respect her because of the way she does things. Then again she is my mom and she takes good care of me. I want to earn her trust and I am willing to go to extreme levels i just don't know how.

The Catholic Church and Birth Control

The Catholic church had found it morally wrong to use any form of bitrh control. Condoms, cervical caps and diapharms were considered artificial, they were not letting the sperm take its natural journey during intercourse. Other artificial uses that killed sperm was considered murder to the Catholic community. The people who were 100% for the birth control were interfering with God's will and was a mortal sin, so the Catholics had said. There were three reasons the Christan and Catholic community didn't want anything to do with birth control. One of the reasons was because it allowed people to be promiscuous, commit adultery, and condemned. In the Catholic community the purpose of sex was to be sacred and valued. When the couple decided to have sex they had to be prepared for forming another life. The church had two methods Catholics may use if they did not want to get pregnant. One method was abstinence, which was a method to not have sex. The other method was to not have sex during the women's period. Many believed these methods could hurt their marriages and did not want to use these methods. In 1957 the Catholic church passed a law for women with irregular cycles to use the pill to regularize their cycles. Dr. Gregory Pincus believed the pill to be natural since it contained hormones that were already in the women's body. The pill also did not tamper with the sperm so they found the pill okay. When the pill was found okay in religions it had been the most popular method of birth control among American women.

Holocaust Survivor

On May 13, 2010 there was a speaker by the name of Edith. She is a survivor from the Holocaust, this was a time when many lives had been destroyed. In 1944 she was thirteen years old and lived in Hungary Buddha. She had lived with her aunt Ella when the Nazis soldiers came into there apartment and forced them the the maintenance room. The people who had been sick or too old, were shot to death right away in front of their friends, family, and neighbors. Edith and her aunt Ella were taken to a stadium. They were getting put in big trucks and were driven to their destinations. Ella had seen a Hungarian soldier that used to work for her and she was very kind to him. She had called him over and asked him to take them out of the stadium. He had done so, he had saved Ella and Edith.
Ella had taken Edith to a Christan woman's house who fed them and sheltered them. When they had left the woman's home they went to a household that was supposed to house them until the war was over. Ella had paid a great amount of money to find out this housing was all a scam and the Nazis had been waiting for them when they had to leave. They were sent to concentration camps that only provided stale bread and not enough water to drink. Every morning they would march and they were humiliated. The Jews had things thrown at them but they still had to march. In these camps everyone had to watch what they said you couldn't trust anybody. Other Jews would tell if you talked bad about the Nazis. They would do these things for food.   Ella and Edith were separated when Edith was fourteen, and she was alone. Edith decided one day she would leave this camp even if she got shot, she had nothing to lose. A man had stopped her and she was so scared she could not answer his questions. In her purse was a cross that was given to her, she had dropped her purse and the cross fell out. When he seen the cross he let her go free. She was free and didn't know what to do with herself, so she decided to go to the Christan woman's home. She had lived there until she was seventeen years old. She went on a ship that was on sea for three weeks and she was very sick.             The boat had stopped and Ella thought the boat was sinking then a man in uniform had come to the bottom of the ship. He had asked her what she was doing down there and she didn't know. He picked her up and put her on his shoulders and showed her the statue of liberty. Tears had come to her eyes and she was very greatful. All that came on that ship were put in prision and were questioned. Edith had loved being there she said it was like a vacation to her. Edith lived in America and was very happy and she lived a successful life. To me she is vey courageous and she is an example of a strong woman.
